Case Study: Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Programme: Developing Leaders within the NHS

The Return on Investment:  Potential Project Saving and Incremental Revenue to Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation of approx £902,485 as a result of the Developing Leaders within the NHS Programme.

We are celebrating the achievements of our first cohort of staff – 12 non-clinical middle managers - who have completed the Developing Leaders within the NHS programme and obtained a CMI Award Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification.

The programme was delivered for the Trust by Activity Group. It focused on the practical skills and knowledge required to make a real impact and difference to the delegates’ leadership skills and the work of their teams.

As part of the programme, each delegate had to devise a work-based project that would save or generate at least £5,000 for the Trust. The completed projects have a combined cost saving/income generation potential of £902,485 and will make important progress towards ensuring the delivery of care where it counts. The Trust has now scheduled Cohort 2 which starts in March.

Comments from the delegates included: “I would certainly recommend the course”; “One of the best courses I have attended, really enjoyed it and very helpful”; “Inspiring”.
